General Information
When to use Downstream vs. the Amazon Advertising console
Best Practices
Generally speaking, you can manage your ads (e.g. change budgets, keyword bids, start/pause campaigns or keywords, etc.) in either Downstream or the Amazon Advertising console.
However, there are two main scenarios that require a user to manage certain activities in the Downstream console:
1) After enabling Dayparting
After enabling Dayparting on a campaign, a user must manage Keyword, default Ad Group, and Target bids in the Downstream application. If a user tries to change the any of these bids from the Amazon Advertising console, the change will be overwritten when the next budget multiplier takes effect.
2) After enabling Advanced Budget Control (ABC)
After enabling Advanced Budget control, a user must manage the campaign budget within the Downstream application. Changes to the budget in the Amazon Advertising console will be overridden by the automation.

We continue to work with Amazon's API teams and to make improvements to our system and changes in the future may allow for these changes to take place in either system. This article will be updated as we add functionality to support changes in the Amazon console when these automations are enabled.
Timing of changes made in Downstream and Amazon's console
The timing of when changes are reflected in Downstream and the Amazon application:
Changing a keyword bid or a campaign budget in Downstream
Changing a bid or budget in Downstream should immediately change the bid/budget in Amazon's system. In some cases, the new bid or budget may not be visible right away in Amazon's system. This may be due to a cache in Amazon's UI. The inconsistency should resolve quickly, or with a hard refresh. In other words, the Amazon API will make the change immediately, but the UI may not reflect the change immediately.
Changing a keyword bid or a campaign budget in Amazon console
Changing a bid or budget in Amazon can longer to update in Downstream. At the slowest end of the spectrum, these changes can take up to 10-12 hours to be reflected in Downstream's UI.
Viewing same day data
When looking at "today's" data, Downstream will not have as up to date information as Amazon's console. Looking at "yesterday's" data should be complete in the morning of "today" for all non attribution-window metrics (e.g. spend). For attribution-window based metrics (e.g. Sales 14-day), these metrics continue to get updated multiple times per day, and may show slight variance with Amazon's console the closer to "today" you are viewing.
How often does Downstream pull data from Amazon?
Advertising performance: as long as every 12 hours
Selling Partner API data: once per day
